I know…it’s been a long time- but here I am!
So, let’s go back in time, just a week, to Sunday, December 14th.
Hubby is on the computer – I am folding laundry, or doing something just as menial.
HUBBY: “Oh Shoot”
ME: (frightened) “What?”
H: I screwed up.
Me: ???
H: Well, I was going to surprise you for Christmas, so on ebay, I bid on a pair of tickets to go see Celine Dion…..
Me: ???
H: I won!
Me: ???
H: I thought it was for January 16th – but it’s December 16th!
Me: You mean 2 days from now?
H: Yeah
M: You mean 2 days from now…the day they’re issuing a winter storm alert, predicting between 6 and 12 inches of snow?
H: It won’t be that bad.
Yes, he meant to surprise me, but it appears he surprised himself.
Well, true to their word, we got hit. Northern Illinois, close to the Wisconsin border had it much worse. Our area got (only) about 5 inches. The storm began in the afternoon, and really got going good by the time everyone left work.
So, despite the rush-hour expressway travel times being at ridiculous times, (ridiculous= 3 and 4 and more hours) we ventured out, and actually succeeded in arriving a bit early! The time we spent getting to the expressway was twice as long as the time we were actually on the expressway. Of course, we were headed into the city, the traffic going opposite us was just crawling.
So the final result of the evening was just fine. Openining for Celene was a comic/impersonator by the name of Gordie Brown.
He was pretty good, I laughed a lot.
Celine was pretty awesome. She is rather small, but that voice.
She moved around a lot on stage, lots of energy. She came out with the shortest dress…I was really surprised…but hey, who am I to judge. Four costume changes – I think – through out the night.
We left just before the finale (yeah, we always do that) which I know was “My Heart Will Go On” I would have loved to have heard her do that….Despite the fact that I am such a huge Titanic fan, I think it’s such a beautiful song.
So, all in all, winter storm, traffic, surprise gift with short notice- I did enjoy my night!
