Just a Mop

I cannot imagine what it is like to live through a hurricane. I do not want to imagine it either.
Here in Chicago, a hurricane is not likely to hit, but we did suffer through a tremendously rainy Friday night and Saturday, and Sunday. Part of this was the tail end of Hurricane Ike.
It rained almost continually for 2 days straight. I have been monitoring my basement for 2 days. I have been fortunate enough to have only seepage. Clean rain water easily mopped up. I have a small lake in my back yard. But it’s outside, not in, my house.
I sit here and watch the news reports of people in Texas, who have lost their homes, been evacuated, don’t know what they are going to do next. Cannot comprehend what they are going through. All I need is a mop to make things OK.  Don’t need to pack up and leave. Don’t need to board a shelter bound bus.  Don’t need to spend hours in my car searching desperately for an open gas station  Then I see news reports of people right here, in other Chicago neighborhoods, Chicago suburbs, who have been evacuated, their homes flooded as well. Unbelievably within 5 miles of my home!

I dare not grumble a word about having to mop up clean water in my basement!

I share you feelins about what IKE did to our area, but the areas south were much worser, weren’t they? I think I am about due to write another “BLOG EPISODE”, but I wish I could get your mother do write, too.

I can’t imagine having to live through a hurricane either– That’s one reason I like WV– no hurricanes, floods, tornadoes…nothing extreme that I can think of.

BTW it is so cool that your dad commented on this post– That means Jenn’s grandfather reads blogs?? My grandparents don’t even know what a blog is!
